The minute difference

ZDF has launched some life sections among its program schedule, in order to attract audience from younger generation. Unfortunately, as an unwilling side-effect, I think that they have revealed a ridiculous shallow side of their cultural image.

The impression of the ridiculous and shallowness is not resulted from any technical perspectives of the production. Because a layman is not in the position to comment on that. What we say here, can only be related to ideological consideration. For example, there is a series show called "blond test". Under this title, a young female blond is videoed to test various tipps, which are advertised in women's magazines, including five days fruit diet menu, which guarantees to reduce 5 kgs in 5 days; hot wax hair removal treatment; real experience of nude erotic massage; striptease lesson; flirting-skill training in pub situation; and so on.

This idea is a bit like those shows such as home-visiting personal fashion consulting, at the first glance. It is a presentation of various life enjoyment, and at the same time, satisfying the typical German obsession on quality testing. Nevertheless, it conceals an inevitable big problem actually. Firstly, it arouses the question of women's social identity. Secondly, what is the definition of beauty. The activities demonstrated in the show, are more like sections of a training designed to reinforce female sex appeal, they are different ways, through which women can equip their bodies (rather than minds) with more pleasant, attractive and seductive power, like tools with stickers of better brands. It made me associate to the famous Indian guide to sex art, The Kamasutra, but a more beast-like version. If we take it as one category of human activitys which balances and colorizes other contents (which require more conscious involvement), it is perfectly alright. However, the problem appears when it is boldly emphasised and there is no other content could be put on the other side of the scale. When the testing blond makes people to think that she possesses merely rough rationality, the elegant art of life would be then degraded into the guidence for pursuiting purely sensory satisfaction, through body-building and lust encouragement. A heavily slop-sided value would be hence passed on to the public.

What I saw from the screen, was just like that; a girl with no sense of shame and with unrefined quality, which is nourished by the superficiality of the modern world. While knowing that the video would be broadcasted on public channel, she was still daring not to hold those 'shits' to her own mouth, still daring to distort her own face, which is already not a blessed one by nature, with careless yelling. I hope what I am saying here is merely a misunderstanding. But I just cannot help to think, such a creature or such creatures, even if they could possess a figure like  devil, even if they could play the role as a sex slave or a sex doll perfectly, so what?

I believe, human beings do have got something, which could be less primitive than that, to make us feel proud of and hence, worth to be encouraged, as public education.
