The amazing music education

I am really amazed by this series of concerts, not only because of the fantastic performance of Bernstein, but also the envious feeling arouse in me, for the music education which the children have in the USA. As a Chinese, I believe that people in my generation have never had chance to attend a real music class other than learning revolutionary songs in school. So, as a conclusion, I dare to assume that at least half of the Chinese population is musical blind. We are lacking of the very basic knowledge to make any sensible judgement about music. A sad enough reality.

All swords have two sharp edges: Having no formal musical education could also mean that you don't get spoilt by the concepts of your teachers, which could narrow your mind down, if they're not too good. Certainly, they way Bernstein presents his topics is more mind-opening than narrowing. But how many school teachers could be as good as Bernstein?
