Unsinniger Donnerstag

My article about this event.

The following link contains the comment about the carnival phenomena in Germany from a musician, who himself is already funny enough:

After a long day in the workshop in Odenwald yesterday I awoke early in Cologne I made my way to the station to take the 1046 ICE train to Amsterdam. All well so far, except for the tiny detail that the carnival in cologne begins today- clearly a red pill/blue pill situation and by the time I arrive at the station tens of thousands of clowns/monks/devils/etc had taken the red pill and washed it down with plenty of beer. I had taken the blue pill with an espresso shortly before. It is a sobering sight. The lights inside the station are bright in the interrogation/dentist sense and they reveal the smudged and running make-up losing against gravity, shoddy costumes, and sunken faces with clown noses upon them. The whole scene seems closer to a Steven King episode except that the nightmare clown has cloned himself thousand-fold in increasing levels of shit-ness. And Om-pa band plays Om-pa probably qualifying this place for the lowest class of celebration music known to man. You really have to see this to believe it. It’s a bizarre mix of deeply-set mass stiffness attempting sudden release via forced inebriation. But I must thank the lighting team and stage designers of the station- they really know how to illuminate and frame a nightmare- several hours later and it’s still blazed onto my retinas, poor fools strutting and fretting their hour upon the stage until they can drink no more. The 100 meter cue for the toilets was especially amusing to behold. Yet in moments like these, man delights me not.
